Our Singapore Green Landscape 2015 provides a list of 44 non-governmental organisations and non-profits; 49 green groups; 17 business associations and groups; 53 green websites; 26 government agencies; and 47 institutes and centres in Singapore, which are relevant to the environment.

Since it’s SG50 this year, we have chosen 50 environmental-related groups and organisations from the Singapore Green Landscape 2015, which we like and based on their past and present work. The other groups and organisations not in this SG50 Green List also deserve our support and recognition too!

Animal Concerns Research and Education Society

The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) aims to: foster respect and compassion for all animals; improve the living conditions and welfare of animals in captivity; and educate people on lifestyle choices which do not involve the abuse of animals and which are environment-friendly. ACRES strongly believes in promoting community involvement in tackling animal welfare issues and in building partnerships with all related bodies to improve animal welfare.

Cat Welfare Society

The Cat Welfare Society is a charity whose aim is to improve the welfare of community (feral) cats in Singapore. Their aim is to: promote tolerance, kindness and respect towards cats and other living creatures; promote sterilisation as opposed to culling of cats; promote responsible pet ownership and responsible management of community cats; and increase awareness of the state of cats living in the streets of Singapore and stop ignorance through education.

Cicada Tree Eco-Place

Cicada Tree Eco-Place is a non-government, non-profit organisation that promotes the natural and cultural heritage of Singapore through environmental education and eco-living. They run environmental education and help build and enhance the capacity of teachers in nature education.

Comcrop

Comcrop is Singapore’s first sustainable urban farming project, with the mission to grow and sell the best tasting vegetable ever, build a socially conscious business model to create a deep impact, and create the most sustainable vegetable farm in an urban city.

Edible Garden City

Edible Garden City champions the “Grow Your Own Food” movement in land-scarce and import-dependent Singapore. They believe that growing food re-connects urbanites to nature, conserves natural resources, and cultivates a sense of community.

Environmental Challenge Organisation (Singapore)

ECO Singapore is a not-for-profit social enterprise. ECO aims to establish a voluntary environmental movement, thereby creating opportunities for active involvement by Singaporean youths, instilling a sense of commitment and awareness of environmental issues and global hazards. By providing youths with a holistic approach towards environmental issues, ECO encourages youths to take initiative and choose to live environmentally sustainable lifestyles.

Food Bank Singapore

Food Bank Singapore strives to bridge the gap in the market by collecting the surplus foods in the market and providing them to organisations and people in need of food.

Food from the Heart

Food from the Heart (FFTH) started with the Bread Distribution Programme in February 2003, and has been channeling unsold bread from bakeries and hotels to welfare organizations, needy families and individuals since then. FFTH has also expanded to four other programmes: Self Collection Centre, Food Goodie Bag, Birthday from the Heart and Toys from the Heart programmes.

Green Drinks (Singapore)

Green Drinks Singapore is a non-profit environmental group that seeks to connect the community, businesses, activists, media, academia and government, for knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities.

Ground-Up Initiative

Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) is a volunteer-driven non-profit community that values connecting with the land for the many things it teaches us.

Nature Society (Singapore)

The Nature Society (Singapore) or NSS is dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, study and enjoyment of the natural heritage in Singapore, Malaysia and the surrounding region. They organise nature appreciation activities; conduct conservation projects and surveys; collaborate with schools and community groups to promote nature appreciation and education; and campaign for the protection of natural habitats.

Singapore Environment Council

Singapore Environment Council (SEC) is an independently managed, non-profit and non-government organisation. It aims to be the preferred non-government organisation partner for communities, businesses and government to achieve the best-in-class sustainable city development in Singapore and the region.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a registered animal welfare charity to promote kindness to animals and birds, and to prevent cruelty to animals and birds. SPCA provides various animal welfare services to the community.

Vegetarian Society (Singapore)

Vegetarian Society (Singapore), VSS, is a non-profit, non-religious organisation formed to build a more humane and harmonious world for everyone on the planet, for our children, as well as for our fellow creatures.

Waterways Watch Society

The Waterways Watch Society (WWS) is a volunteer group that brings like-minded people together to monitor, restore and protect the aesthetics of our waterways. WWS initiates and organises on-going activities aimed at educating the public on the importance of keeping the waterways clean.

WWF Singapore

WWF Singapore initiates outreach, educational and fundraising activites for Asia Pacific conservation works through close collaboration with corporations and the Singapore community.

Earthlink NTU

Earthlink NTU is the environmental club in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) promoting environmentalism among all staff and students of NTU. Their mission is to create opportunities for the NTU community to make a positive difference for the environment, to advocate an environmentally sustainable lifestyle among youths, and to build up their passion for the environment.

International Coastal Cleanup Singapore

The International Coastal Cleanup Singapore (ICCS) is coordinated by volunteers of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research at NUS, and is part of an annual global event. It aims to remove and collect data on debris from the shorelines, waterways and beaches of the world’s lakes, rivers and oceans. This information serves to educate the public on marine debris issues and to encourage positive change.

Naked Hermit Crabs

The Naked Hermit Crabs are volunteer guides at Singapore’s shores such as Chek Jawa, Pulau Semakau, Kusu Island. They have come together to share our shores through public walks, especially those shores which are in danger.

NUS SAVE

NUS SAVE (Students Against Violation of the Earth) is a group of passionate undergraduates who are at the forefront of leading student environmental movements that advocate for the National University of Singapore (NUS) to be an exemplary model for sustainability and action against climate change.

NUS Toddycats!

NUS Toddycats! are volunteers with the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (ex-Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research) at the National University of Singapore. Toddycats! is meant to expose, develop, enthuse and apply individuals to programmes in conservation, education and research.

Project: FIN

Project: FIN aims to reduce the consumption of shark’s fins by spreading awareness among consumers and businesses.

Save That Pen

Save That Pen gives used and unwanted pens a new lease of life. They collect donated pens from around Singapore, refill them, and pass them on to underprivileged students in Singapore and the region.

The Leafmonkey Workshop

The Leafmonkey Workshop organises workshops and provide a platform for networking, learning, sharing and doing for nature groups, nature volunteers and nature lovers.

Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility

The Singapore Compact for CSR is a national society committed to bringing the CSR movement forward. Its key mission is to broaden the base for collaboration, by developing coordinated and effective strategies to promote CSR, and enhancing corporate practices through ongoing dialogues, training, collaboration and practical project implementation in Singapore.

Singapore Green Building Council

The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) is the only non-profit organisation with a concerted private-public sector partnership to achieve a world-class and sustainable built-environment in Singapore. Its key role is to advocate green building design, practices and technologies and drive environmental sustainability in the building and construction industry.

Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore

The Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) aims to facilitate the business of its member companies, and thus developing Singapore as the regional centre for the promotion of energy efficiency technologies and services, showcasing of renewable energy technologies, carbon asset management and trading as well as clean energy finance.

Eco Walk the Talk is a non-profit environmental website with an Asia focus. It covers eco news and insights, offers green living tips, and features people who inspire with their environmental thoughts and action.

Energy Efficient Singapore

Energy Efficient Singapore is an initiative of the Energy Efficiency Programme Office, a multi-agency committee led by the National Environment Agency and the Energy Market Authority, to promote and facilitate the adoption of energy efficiency in Singapore.

Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources

The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) is committed to providing Singaporeans with a quality living environment. Together with its statutory boards, the National Environment Agency and PUB, the national water agency, MEWR manages Singapore’s limited resources and addresses Singapore’s environmental sustainability challenges through innovation, vibrant partnerships and co-operation across the 3P sectors – private, public and people.

National Climate Change Secretariat

The National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS), under the Prime Minister’s Office, develops and implements Singapore’s domestic and international policies and strategies to tackle climate change. Its responsibilities are to facilitate efforts to mitigate carbon emissions in all sectors, help Singapore adapt to the effects of climate change, harness economic and green growth opportunities arising from climate change, and encourage public awareness and action on climate change.

National Environment Agency

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is the leading public organisation responsible for improving and sustaining a clean and green environment in Singapore. It develops and spearheads environmental initiatives and programmes through its partnership with the People, Public and Private sectors. NEA is committed to motivating every individual to take up environmental ownership and to care for the environment as a way of life.

National Parks Board

The National Parks Board (NParks) is responsible for providing and enhancing the greenery of our City in a Garden. Beyond building green infrastructure, NParks is actively engaging the community to enhance the quality of our living environment.

PUB, the national water agency

PUB, the national water agency, is responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in Singapore. Its mission is to ensure an efficient, adequate and sustainable supply of water.

Urban Redevelopment Authority

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is Singapore’s land use planning and conservation authority. Its mission is to make Singapore a great city to live, work and play. URA strives to create a vibrant and sustainable city of distinction by planning and facilitating Singapore’s physical development in partnership with the community.

Energy Research Institute @ NTU

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) aims to be a centre‐of‐excellence for advanced research, development, and demonstration of innovative energy solutions with global impact. It will focus on the areas of sustainable energy, energy efficiency and infrastructure, and the socio-economic aspects of energy research.

Energy Studies Institute

The Energy Studies Institute (ESI) at NUS provides independent, quality and timely policy research and analysis of regional and global energy trends and issues in energy economics, security and the environment.

Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) strives to be a leader in Southeast Asian biodiversity and conservation research, education, and outreach. LKCNHM inherited the natural history collection from its predecessor, the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (RMBR).

Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy aims to be a centre of excellence for academic study and research in the areas of public policy and public management.

Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute

The Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) unifies NTU’s education, research, translation and applications in environmental science and engineering, through the NEWRI ecosystem of research groups and centres, and so provides a contiguous value chain linking research, education, industry and community.

Singapore Institute of International Affairs

The Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) is an independent organisation dedicated to the research, analysis and discussion of regional and international issues. It aims to make Singapore a more cosmopolitan and global society through research, policy work and public education on international affairs.

Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology

The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) develops high value manufacturing technology and human capital to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing industry. It is a research institute of A*STAR.

Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore

The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) is Singapore’s national institute for applied solar energy research. It conducts research, development, testing and consulting in the fields of solar energy conversion and solar building technologies, to contribute towards a sustainable global energy supply and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
